Her grandmother has some very strange rules:. Never leave your windows open after dark. No dolls in the house. Never, ever go by the house in the woods. A little spooked, Josie is relieved to find that her school seems pretty normal. She even manages to make friends with a popular girl named Vanessa.

Not even when Vanessa takes her into the woods and down an old dirt road, toward the very house her grandmother had warned her about. Anna has never been like the other kids. Things that should never come alive seem to come alive in her presence… like dolls.

And other times, it feels like she is able to bring things to life that would be better left dead. Josie never talks about what happened to her there, so Anna has grown up not knowing about the evil that waits for her in the woods. Can she control it… or will it control her? Jasmine dreamed of the Carlisle Hotel for years, even before she moved to Gold River. It has always called to her. She knows a terrible darkness lurks in its cursed halls, long-since abandoned after guests mysteriously died of fright.

And now, she and her friends Mira and Rohan are spending the night. The middle school Dare is Gold River tradition. But this time, the hotel wants to play a game of its own.

Samantha and Rachel used to be friends. But when Rachel betrayed Samantha, Samantha decided to make her life a living nightmare. One day, Samantha and Rachel were fighting by the cursed Lake Lamont.

Samantha pushed Rachel. And back. No way to save Rachel. No way she could be alive. But the next day, Rachel showed up to school as if nothing happened.

And now she’s the one who wants to make her former friend’s life a living nightmare. If you don’t stand up to your fears, they will destroy you. When five kids are invited to a cemetery at midnight, they think it’s just a prank. When they find a gravestone that instructs them to dig up a grave, they think it’s just a joke.

It’s no joke. An evil force is unleashed – a force that takes the shape of their worst fears. A shark in the water.

A ghost in the walls. A nightmare of being buried alive. A snake about to strike. A sinister clown waiting in the woods. Once these fears are released, they won’t go away. Not without a fight. You may have grown stronger, but so have your fears.

Andres, Kyle, April, Deshaun and Caroline may have become close friends. But that friendship is put to the test when their old nightmare returns.

The clown has new tricks up its sleeve. Every year, the town of Happy Hills holds its haunted house contest. In a spooky old manor, teams of kids come up with new ways to frighten people. The scariest team wins.

This year, however, all the teams are going to lose. Because this year the house itself has awakened. What started out as a game has turned into something much more deadly. No one ever leaves Copper Hollow. Kimberly thinks there might be something strange going on. Kimberly and her friends try to destroy the doll. Is there any way to rid themselves of the evil once and for all?

It hangs over everything she does, even an innocent slumber party with her two best friends. But then she starts to hear from a spirit—a spirit claiming to be her sister.

Has her sister actually returned, or has something worse taken her place? When Tamal and his family moved into their new house, he thought his life was getting an upgrade. A manor, rather than his old small apartment? He could have many adventures, even if his family did move from the city to a tiny town. Except, he’s started seeing the ghost of a young girl holding a teddy bear at the edge of his vision.

Following him. Everywhere he turns, he sees her. Getting slowly closer. He’s heard horror stories from his new friends of what will happen if she catches you. Can he escape her? Or will he become another ghost haunting the halls?

The frights are only just beginning. From spooky dolls to ghosts and ghouls, a great many books are coming your way very soon. Want to send fan mail to KR Alexander? I can be reached at. One, never leave your windows open after dark, even if it’s hot. Two, no dolls in the house. And three, never, ever go by the house in the woods.

As always my reviews are based off of my true and honest opinion and I do my best to keep all reviews spoiler free. Sixth grader Josie and her little sister Annie along with there mom are leaving the city to move in with there grandmother in the country. A choice that Josie isn’t to happy about. Josie’s grandmother always made it clear to stay out of the woods and about the three important rules to never break.

Josie isn’t sure how she feels about these rules, but there are strange noises coming from the woods at night, and some of those noises sounds like someone calling her name.

Soon Josie makes friends with fellow sixth grader Vanessa. She lives in the creepy old house by the woods, the one grandma warned her about. Complete with creepy old dolls. Between the rules, the house, the dolls, her dreams, and her friends suspicious behavior, Josie can feel that something is very wrong and she fears for her and her sister.

This book was really good even considering it was meant for much younger than me. I started reading it at night and it is a quick read. Most adults could finish it in an hour or two. Keeping in mind that I get spooked easily. I recommend reading this in the day. I started it at night right before bed and I got seriously spooked, but thats what was so great about it.

I found it to be fast paced and really entertaining. Great for a quick scare. It reminded me a bit of Goosebumps and I like Goosebumps. The only real problem I had with it was it wasn’t really an original story. Lots of creepy dolls and a spooky woods, complete with a old superstitious grandmother. However, even with the same old story it still held my attention and I truly enjoyed this book. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. Want to Read saving…. For a middle grade novel it was quite creepy and eerie.

Great Halloween read for anyone who wants a spooky but super easy book to re This book deserves a strong 3.

Great Halloween read for anyone who wants a spooky but super easy book to read. BUT with it being a middle grade novel it has little to no character structure, little to no detail, and is such a simple and easy read that it could easily be finished in no time at all. It’s also quite predictable.

For a young reader or a very frightened reader I could see this book being a really scary read. With that being said though I still really enjoyed it. That could just be because it has a certain character that has a certain ability that I absolutely LOVE in books But you’d have to read it yourself to find out what that is! View all 8 comments. Sep 27, McCaid Paul rated it really liked it Shelves: horror. The Collector is one of the more creative middle-grade horror books, with a fair amount of dolls.

I loved that the author didn’t hold back and delivered a truly spine-chilling tale involving all the things from our nightmares. It was a bit rushed in places, but the mystery definitely made up for it. This is one book that horror enthusiasts shouldn’t miss!

I don’t think I read all of them, but I probably came impressively close.
